Ninja Rings
A Tex Austin Review

The Ninja Rings are designed to be a version of the traditional Linking Rings that is well designed for close up work. I am going to review the rings themselves and not the DVD that accompanies them.

The quality of the rings themselves is quite good. They are a little under 5" in diameter so they fit easily in your back pocket. The rings are heavy enough to discourage bending but not too heavy. I have had mine for a couple of years and they are still in the same shape that they came even though I've spent many long days sitting on them in my back pocket. So, they definitely get points for being durable. Further, there is no discernable weld. That means that when you spin the rings while linked you get no "click-click" just that clean humming sound that magicians so love.

A good point about these rings is the design of the key ring. If you look closely you will find that rather than being straight the ends of the ring taper. That makes crash links easier.

It's hard to find fault with these rings. Perhaps one might fault them because they are just four rings, but careers have been made on just two rings. Cellini's routine is a two ring routine.

I would suggest getting Shoot Ogawa's DVD if you buy these rings. He has some very nice moves with them.

I personally feel that they are somewhat over-priced. The Royal Magic 5" rings are a little more than half the price and you get a full 8 rings. The Royal Magic rings are a lighter gauge though and don't have the bevelled key. So I understand why the Ninja Rings would cost more, just not quite so much more especially since you are lacking 3 of the rings that the Royal Magic set has.

The gold set has a bag and a snap holder. I never used the bag but I do use the snap holder, it fits on your belt. It's well designed to hide the key.

These rings are easier to learn than traditional linking rings. There are some moves designed for the bigger rings that you simply can't do with these, but then again, there are some moves that you can do with these that you can't with the bigger.

A note here, not meant as a criticism, is that this is not a trick that you can pick up and perform the same day unless you already have experience with linking rings. This trick will take work to master. It's not as bad as the 10" or 12" rings that will take many months or even years to master, but it will take you time and practice. Then again, you will experience a sense of satisfaction at having mastered a difficult trick.

The crash link in the spectator's hand is, properly done, an absolute guaranteed jaw dropper. Every person that I've ever performed it for has looked shocked.

I give this product a 9 out of 10. I feel that the difference in price from the silver Ninja rings is not justified by the holder and the bag that comes with this set.
