SSS by Shin Lim - HOT HOT HOT!

The idea is an interesting idea but not suitable for strolling without some serious thought. With Shin Lim being an award winning magician, I expected the same thought, perfection, and scripting in his teaching, yet he broke the code of presenting something before being prepared. No real scripting of what he wanted to do, along with insulting our intelligence by showing on his laptop how to get to the websites to find the needed items online. Had there been real world footage of SSS in use proving the claim of being able to do anywhere and completely surrounded, a rehearsed script, and removing the insulting laptop demo to find items online, the cost of this would be justifiable, but as is, half the cost would be a fair deal... The reason for a 2 star rating is just for the idea, otherwise it would be a 1 star rate.

I just received SSS yesterday and watched the whole DVD. I am VERY disappointed with it. I am a walk-around magician, as are most. Most magicians I know are not solely the type of magician where people walk up to their table to get a performance. That is rare. But this is the type that Shin Lim's effect is for.
He gives three variations of his routine, which involves sitting with a mat. The hook-up is not conducive to walk-around, restaurant-type venues, which is what I bought it for due to Shin Lim advertising it as being able to produce smoke from ANYWHERE. Not true at all! If you can, it certainly isn't on this DVD. Shin even says he has never performed it strolling. NEVER! I feel I was duped. He tells you how to hook it up for strolling but not how to perform it. Not one single routine for street, restaurant, house party or cabaret magic. No advice whatsoever. He says to use your imagination. Well, that is NOT what I paid $30 for. I was planning on using it with Invisible, the ring levitation. I thought it would be cool to borrow a ring, hold it in between your closed hands, and when you open them, smoke rolls out. When the smoke clears, they see their ring hovering above your hand. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!! Shin says he sees a lot of possible applications for walk-around. If that's so, then why didn't he offer at least ONE?? Cause there aren't any, that's why. In fact, he doesn't even show you how to perform it at a table. Not one, total walk-through of any specific routine from beginning to end.
Then, at the end of the "Bonus" routine, he says he'll tell you a second way to produce smoke from your mouth, but never does. Don't these guys watch, and edit, their own DVD before they produce hundreds of copies? Doesn't anybody on their team? Really? Nobody catches the glaring, obvious mistake? Unbelievable! He better be releasing a free, updated download with the missing information soon. What a rip!
And his teaching leaves a lot to be desired. He goes over every detail of what you need and where to buy it, redundantly, at least 3 or 4 times. He wastes so much time telling you over and over, ad nauseum, insignificant details that an 8th grader would get the first time around. What about the important stuff like, oh, I don't know...routining? Performing? What about the 90% of magicians that do walk-around? What about us who constitute 90% of your sales?
So, that's what we get for $30, huh? Very disappointed, guys. I'm your very first customer going back 10 years. Bought a lot of good stuff from you guys...with GREAT customer service. The BEST, Jeff. Let's see what you do with this one. It's going in my never-used-drawer. Too bad. Would've been a bad-ass effect if the creator would've done his homework before marketing it as smoke from anywhere. Only if you're sitting down with a mat.. but that's not anywhere, now is it? Honestly!

This trick can only be done under certain conditions as there is no concealment of the gimmick. You can easily get burned by wandering eyes. Misdirection is not going to cut it. The gimmick is very large. The explanation is long and drawn out. You really can't do this trick standing as the performer admits in the DVD he has never done standing unless he is in front of a table. Since you can't do this standing as in the preview video where he vanishes a coin, I feel the description is a little misleading. And $30 is way too much considering you will have to pay about $30 to $45 additional to make the gimmick.
