Jim Steinmeyer’s popular effect involves a hank of rope — supposedly an artifact from one of Houdini’s famous escapes. “Many people thought that he could actually dematerialize and pass through the rope. It sounds incredible, but I’d like to give you a demonstration.”

The magician stretches the rope across the stage and has it examined by two men from the audience. The spectators hold the ends of the rope as a small upright stand is rolled to the center of the rope. “This is the spot where I’m going to try to pass through the rope.” The magician steps up onto the stand, framed by the wooden uprights. He pauses behind the taut rope, then covers the center of the rope with a square of cloth. Dramatically, he steps forward, until the audience can see that he’s passed completely through Houdini’s Rope!

The magician shows two cut out rabbits one White and one Black. They are covered with two covers, the White rabbit going into the cover with a White hat, and the Black rabbit into a cover with the Black hat.

The covers are moved around, and the rabbits are found to have exchanged places. This is repeated a number of times, and the audience believes they have caught you out.

They inform that the rabbits are White on one side and Black on the other, and you are merely turning them around to change places.

Effect: The magician arrives on stage and begins to set up. He pulls out a very small close-up case. He explains to his audience that he has forgotten to set up his microphone stand. He then reaches into the small bag and produces a full sized microphone stand!

This apparatus consists of a cabinet 10 inches by 5 inches square, just bouncing with decoration. The cabinet is open at the top, front, and rear, and may even be examined.

A spectator inflates a balloon and it is placed in the cabinet. The performer smashes it with the block of wood, and claims a RABBIT WILL APPEAR IN THE BALLOON!! Nothing has apparently happened. He then reaches into the cabinet and brings out a flat rabbit. Try it again. This time as the balloon breaks, a live dove appears, a if it was INSIDE THE BALLOON. This may be a visible change and, don’t forget, the cabinet was examined. Work it on any table or even in your hands.

Scores of effects are possible. Balloon to Silk --- Balloon to Candy or Glass of Liquid --- or anything else that is about the size of the cabinet. Operate everything close-up and surrounded. Entirely mechanical. No hanging bags. This method is a new idea!!

An Introduction
Corporate entertainer Anthony Lindan has closed every engagement for the past fifteen years with his Incredible Suit Jacket Escape. Honed over thousands of performances in every possible environment and for every kind of audience the Incredible Suit Jacket Escape is large scale, one-man illusion that fills a stage and fits in a briefcase.

Routine Description
The performer explains that he would like to close his show with an homage to the incredible magician and escape artist Harry Houdini. One of Harry Houdini's amazing feats was to escape from a straight jacket. Now it was legendary that Houdini was in such peak physical shape that he was able to dislocate body parts and free himself from some of the toughest straight jackets ever manufactured. The performer admits that he is not exactly in the phenomenal physical condition Houdini was, so in honour of the great master, he will attempt to escape from his own suit jacket! As the audience laughter dies down, the performer explains that to make things more challenging, his hands will be cuffed together, making it nearly impossible for him to make his escape. Two volunteers are invited to the stage to inspect the handcuffs and locks, and proceed to lock the performers hands behind his back. A curtain that encircles the performer is raised by the two volunteers. It's at this point that the hilarious mayhem begins! The curtain is raised and lowered several times, each time revealing the performer (and his jacket) in more and more ludicrous physical positions. The jacket is half on half off, then it's on completely backwards, then it's almost off but the cuffs are snagged painfully between the performer's legs! Impossibly the jacket ends up hanging free from the performer's head and his hands are still cuffed behind his back! Suddenly he offers a free hand to shake the hand of the volunteer on his left and just a suddenly he offers his other to shake the volunteer's hand on his right, and the audience laughs their way into a huge round of applause!

A card is selected from a deck of cards and replaced in the pack. Two plexi-glass panels are displayed and banded together with two rubberbands.

The magician shows the box empty to the audiences and with his glance it suddenly bursts into flames but the flames immediately vanish. (You can keep the flames as long as you wish). The magician then shows the box empty to the audiences again, and he makes a very big silk appear from the box. He passes the corners of the silk from the holes, which are seen on the sides of the box.

This action is clearly done infront of the audiences so they can see what is happening. Everybody sees that the silk has been passed from the holes, and instantaneously, with the magician's glance, both the silk and the box will be on fire, so the audiences see the burning of the silk but the fire again vanishes but the silk has not been damaged.

EFFECT : A silver ball is seen resting on a base. The performer covers the ball with a foulard and while he holds the corners of the foulard with each hand, the ball begins to slowly rise in a ghostly manner! Put a carrot in the top hole and through the bottom hole, making the them very nervous!

Effect

A handkerchief is given out for examination. The magician makes a knot in one corner, and it "comes to life". It moves, goes straight, lays down and even "says hello" etc. It really seems to be your partner. At the end the magician tells the audience the reason why it happened: he drank too much champagne! Suddenly a champagne bottle appears from the folds of the handkerchief. Everything can be given out for examination.
