BRIEF HISTORY

Dan Sperry is a working professional Las Vegas magician and graphic artist.  Back in November of 2008, Jeff Mash (owner of MJM Magic) had the opportunity to spend some time with Dan Sperry.  It was then that he saw the Crimson Deck in design, and he was immediately blown away.  On the spot, he offered to produce them with Dan and the rest is history!

After finalizing things with the US Playing Card Company and waiting for the process to finish, the cards were printed up in April 2009 and delivered for sale by May 1st.

LIMITED EDITION

We have only produced a few thousand of these decks, so you don't want to miss the chance to get one of these first edition Crimson Decks.  There are no current plans to print anymore after this, so whether you're a card collector or you simply want a new look to your cards, you will want to pick some of these up.

Flash pads are perfect for several different fire effects. Roughly 2" x 3" in size.

A spectator chooses a card from a deck of cards and signs his/her name across the face of the selected card. The card is replaced back into the deck and shuffled. Then the performer picks a card, which is revealed to be an indifferent card. He places it into a transparent plastic card holder. The spectators can see the face of the card inside the holder. As the magician makes a magical gesture, the indifferent card morphs into the signed selection. The card is removed from the holder and handed out for examination.

At first glance, the cards just look downright freaky. All jet black with just a little bit of pure white showing on the cards. I've never seen the Queen of Hearts look so possessed and freaky!! I fanned them out, and to my surprise, they fanned just as good as a new Bicycle Deck. I had read from a previous post that the cards were sticky, but these were the air cushion finish I was used to! I performed a double lift, and it was flawless. A riffle pass, BAM, it was perfect! I was just getting started.

I performed a shapeshifter and in broad daylight, it looked like an instantaneous switch. Very good looking. The face-up riffle pass is just beautiful as the face up card travels from the middle of the deck to the top. It's an eerie looking effect since there is not a whole lot of change in the color like there is with a blue or red deck. Then, I decided to close myself in my room, shut the blinds, light some candles for some dim light and that's when I realized the true power of the black deck.

Guys, this deck is not just for your everyday routines. The blue and red decks, I believe, should still be used in many routines and tricks. If you're going to throw comedy in with your routine, I feel you should stick with the red and blue decks. These cards will absolutely freak people out in a dim lit setting. It depicts a horror story setting, and if you guys have any routines and patter that have to do with flames, burnt images, the dead...my GOD these things are going to be great. I'm working on a Black Deck routine, as I'm sure many of you are, and hope to soon post it on the forums.

Sorry to ramble on so much, but these decks are a threat to be reckoned with! A card manipulator's dream, and a scary feel to them to boot! Get them now while you can! You never know when they will cease to exist...

Oh, man, these are some beautiful things. Brad was right; it's a bit freaky at first handling some frickin' BLACK cards. But I went out on the street this morning - and, it's certainly been said that standing around just doing flourishes will definitely attract attention - but you have no idea what kind of attention you can attract doing so, until you've stood around flourishing with a deck of Black Tigers. Once someone walking by does that ever-so-imminent double take at the cards in your hand, a simple "Wanna see some magic?" is all it takes to reel in that catch. Awesome. Just awesome.

As you can tell, I have nothing but praise for these cards - sure, you can say that they're just a "novelty item", or "They're just negative image cards, big deal!" - but come on, NOBODY's seen these before. If you're one of those that's JUST shy enough to NOT walk up to someone and ask them to see some magic, let these cards do the talking for you. They're honestly THAT much of an attention getter. In retrospect, I'm just sad I only had enough money for now to purchase 3 packs. I'll definitely be investing in more of these puppies.

Effect: You ask a spectator to think of any card. That's right, ANY CARD, which they name out loud. You then produce a deck of cards that's still in the box. There is no way that you could have switched any cards around, because the box is clearly sealed.

After removing the cards from the box, you start spreading the cards face up to the spectator. Unbelievably, amongst all the face up cards, there is just ONE face down card in the entire pack! After removing it, the spectator is baffled when he sees that it happens to be the one card that he named in the beginning!

Effect:

A spectator freely selects a card from a shuffled deck and is asked to memorize it. Then the magician explains that he actually learned how to perform magic from his grandfather. The magician pulls out his keys and points out to the photo frame key-tag with grandfather's photo sealed inside. On that specific photo, grand-pa carries a playing card FACE-DOWN in his jacket pocket. The magician continues and explains that sometimes he still can communicate with his grandfather through magic. WHAT IS THIS DECK?

It's a red backed deck of different, specialized playing cards that are meant to be used WITH a normal red Bicycle deck. No one expects cards like these and it allows you to create literal miracles in front of people.

"My God. I just went through the new Red Bike Gaff Deck, and I am almost in tears. I hate to sound that way, but the impact is tremendous.

I fanned through them and the possibilities absolutely leaped off of the cards and into my soul. You will, without a doubt, not believe your eyes when you see some of the stuff. I promise you, this is not a tease on my part (the little boy who cried wolf!), this is such a post written with awe... incredible!

I am not saying to wait for this deck to come out before you attempt your routines, I am simply saying that if you are a gaff person, or if this experience has turned you into one... man!

These will not be available to you all for a couple of weeks, but it is something I would put on my list of things well worth waiting for."

Red Bicycle® Gaff Deck - Review

"I've had the honor of being on the Ellusionist design team of the Red Gaff project. What a ball it has been designing this deck with everyone. The creativity of this group is staggering.

Down to brass tacks. Just got my deck of the red Gaff cards in the mail.

I now know why everyone has been raving about the new gaff cards. They truly jump out at you. The aged card printed better than I could have hoped. It certainly has a "creative juices catalyst" quality to it. I could see toting whole deck of these in a deck switching routine....

I won't try to re-hash any of the tormenting details posted before, but I will offer my personal favorites (not trying to plug E products on every comment, but I can't deny the effectiveness of the combination of effects).

1) The 10-D card with the diamonds that fall to the bottom: Try a Parth's Axis change (download available on E) with this card, it's droolingly effective.

2) I can't wait to use the burned King of Clubs with Third Degree Burn. Better yet, force a KC, have them hold the entire deck in one hand with the burned KC gaff card on bottom against their palm, turn their hand over, then give them the Electric touch on the back of their hand and BURN the prediction through their hand onto the card. I could go on all day about the possibilities on this one.

3) Eight of Hearts hidden in the scroll work. I love this card because it can stay in a spectators hand for a month and they'd never notice it. Now all you do is reach over and wipe the prediction onto their card while they're holding it.

4) Thumbprint card. Simple. Effective, but lets add some Scorpion blacklight effects with this, or the Electric Touch and/or UltraSmoke and you BURN your print onto the card. Great for Mentalists.

5) Last but not least Bullet Hole Card. (Did this to my coworkers this morning. I thought it' be hokey, but after seeing them stare at me in a catatonic trance, I just had to write it) Give the spectator a "Magic Invisible bullet" have them load it into their invisible gun. You hold the card out in front of your face.

On the count of 3, they fire, "POW" ...SNAP CHANGE, you throw your head back, a puff of UltraSmoke, you stagger and recover to show the round of a .38 slug caught between the teeth and a bullet hole in your card. (I should note the seriousness of disassembling a centerfire bullet. DON'T DO IT. The dangers aren't even funny to talk about. I just happened to have some spares from my firing range days). Nonetheless, I thought it'd be silly. I was dead wrong. I felt like Chung Ling Soo.

I'm sure I've tortured you enough. I will end up buying another deck or two on release, because this one is already getting worn out fast. You're gonna love it."
