Color Monte ~Euro Version~ from Royal Magic

Show three cards; one with a blue spot and two with a red spot. Explain that this is a game for gambling, and whoever finds the blue spot wins a euro, but if that person is wrong, he must forfeit a euro. Then explain that you were once taken by this game, and show how you were taken, losing three euros because every time you thought you picked the blue card, it was red. So, you accused the man of not even having a blue card. He showed the bottom card as blue, so you lost another euro! So, you said that if it was the card on the bottom, it couldn't be the one on top, but again, you lost another euro! It is then showed as the center card as well, and by then, there's been six euros lost. So, you said that you thought he was using more than three cards, but were proven wrong and lost another euro. So, the gambler giave you another chance, double or nothing. He showed you that one card was red, another as blue, and all you had to do was name the color of the third card. Red, right? Wrong again! It's not red, nor is it anything anyone would expect!

Think Ink
A card is chosen and placed back in the deck. A notebook is introduced and a blank page is ripped out. The paper is dipped into a glass of water (or any beverage) and the selected card appears on the paper in bright color. The piece of paper can be examined before during and after the effect and kept as an unbelievable souvenir.

Linkage
Two rubber bands are shown and examined. The bands are held very openly and with no funny moves the bands link. This has got to be one of the most visual rubber band links to date.

Breathe
This one is spooky. A card is chosen and placed back in the deck. Inspired by how Superman could freeze things with his breath, you blow onto a nearby window and their selection appears in the fog. The greatest thing about this one is that no gimmicks are required.

Xplode
So visual and so unexpected. A card is selected and lost in the deck. When the first attempt to find the card fails, you instruct the audience to picture their card on the back of another playing card. With a flick the card explodes to reveal their selected card.

Wager
This is a card and bill transpo that gets screams! A bill is borrowed, folded and placed into the spectators hand. A card is then chosen from the deck. Upon inspection of the deck their card has vanished and a dollar bill is in its place. When they open their hand it is revealed that they are now holding their selected card.

Book Smart
Mentalism meets magic in a new and fun way. A spectator selects a page from a book, inspects it and notes the page number. A card is then chosen and placed back in the deck. The spectator is instructed to burn that card into their mind. Startled, you say, "I told you to burn it into your mind, not the book." When you go to the selected page... their selected card is now burnt into the page.

The Infection
This truly bizarre effect allows you to thread your ear piercing with a needle and thread and allow a spectator to rip the thread straight through your ear. This is a beautiful performance piece that will make you stand out from the common trickster.

• A Coin Entrapped: A surprising magical gag where two coins are placed on a card case. A spectator chooses one of the coins but when they try to pick it up it is found under the cellophane.
  
• Demi-Tass: The four aces are found using different visual productions after the deck has been shuffled.
  
• Slow-Motion Aces: An ace assembly where three cards are placed on top of each ace and one at a time the aces disappear and accumulate in one spot.

The spectators now spell their names, any way they want, and the card they spell to is their selection. Except for the final selection which is found using a flourishy cutting sequence.
  
• Lucky Seven: Two cards are peeked at and lost in the deck. The deck is cut in half where a red seven is seen face up. Cards are now dealt from the two packets and the seventh card of each packet is found to be the selection.
  
• Up The Ladder Aces: The deck is shuffled and cut as the four aces are magically produced.
  
• Woodfield Torn & Restored Card: A signed card is accidentally torn in half. The torn pieces are thrown away and the spectator selects a second card. When he turns over the new card it turns out to be the original signed selection.
  
• Furota's Ace Production: A spectator turns a portion of the deck face up and face down a few times. The deck is re-squared and when the cards are spread on the table all the cards are face down except the four aces, which are the only face-up cards.

• Little Pennies: Two half-dollars and two English pennies jump from hand to hand with a surprising finale where the large pennies change to the much smaller American pennies.
  
• Dropping The Aces: Four aces are displayed and three cards are placed on top of each. Surprisingly all four aces completely vanish and are found in the deck using four different revelations.
  
• Innocent Bystander: An ace is placed inside the card box and four kings are placed on the table. A signed selection is lost in the deck while the four kings are used to find the selection. Amazingly the selection is later found in the card case where the Ace just was.
  
• Twisting The Aces: Four aces magically turn face up and face down in this multiphase routine where they turn singly and in groups concluding by reversing themselves while in the center of the deck.
  
• Perceptive Deception: An odd backed card is added to a small packet. The spectator selects one card while the packet is face up. When she checks, the back is ordinary but when the rest of the cards are turned over they are seen to all have odd backs.
  
• Stabbed In The Pack: A card is peeked at and lost in the deck. A second card is tossed into the deck face up and the card next to it turns out to be the selection.
  
• Gold Medal: A card is selected and lost in the deck. A spectator hands you a packet from the deck and when you sort through the cards, eliminating them in groups, you are left with one card and it is the selection.

• Flying Eagles: A multiphase coins across routine using six quarters.
  
• The Ball Vase: The classic Michael Skinner routine where sleight-of-hand is used to make a child's toy into an entertaining and magical routine.
  
• Royal Flush Propelled Lapping: A spectator removes any five cards from the deck. When the cards are turned face up they are shown to be the royal flush.
  
• Open Prediction: A card is named prior to the routine. A spectator deals the deck face up looking for the card, leaving one card face down. Amazingly, the previously named card turns out to be the card the spectator left face down.
  
• Cards Across: The classic of magic where cards vanish from one packet and appear in another while both packets are being held by a spectator.
  
• Push-Through Failure: A card is peeked at and found by shuffling face-up cards through face-down cards. The face-up half now contains one face-down card. The packet is turned face down and the selected card is spelled down to revealing the face-up selection.
  
• Seconds, Thirds, Fourths & Fifths: A gambling themed routine where you apparently deal cards from different parts of a small packet of cards.
  
• Tabled Ambitious: A selected card is lost in the middle of the deck but is found on top. It continues to be lost in the deck but manages to find it's way to the top under more impossible conditions -- even when the deck is tabled.
  
• All The Non-Conformists: A packet trick where the four queens are displayed and a spectator names one. The named queen turns out to have the only odd backed card. The routine continues until the backs of all the cards continuously change from black to red and vice versa.
  
• The Mona Lisa Card Trick: A book of matches is used as an easel, and the deck is described as fifty-two paintings. A painting is selected and lost in the deck. The Queen Of Spades (the Mona Lisa) is placed on the easel. When the selected card is named the Queen is now shown to be the selection.

• Telltale Aces: A card is peeked at and lost in the deck. The four aces are displayed and one of them reverses itself. The reversed ace now turns into the selected card and magically back into the ace.
  
• The Card Tunnel: Two cards are pushed through the deck and one of them reverses itself. The process is repeated only this time one of the cards' back changes color. A little shake and the cards are back to normal.
  
• Cannibal Cards: The four kings are identified as cannibals and three indifferent cards are shown as missionaries. The four cannibals now eat the three missionaries. The Cannibals, still hungry start eating each other as they too vanish. For a finale the deck is spread and the three indifferent cards are found interlaced with the face up kings.
  
• Devilish Miracle: Two selected cards are looked at and found in an impossible and surprising way.
  
• Child’s Color-Change Routine: A routine used to entertain children where cards change color, spots are removed and a kicker ending.
  
• Aces?: A magician fooler where the four aces are cut from a shuffled deck.
  
• Three Different Ways: Three methods of selecting a card are demonstrated as three cards are selected. The selections are found in very magical ways where their mates are found during the journey.

1) Mini 4 of a Coin* - Using a miniature deck of cards, produce, one at a time, the four aces. These cards are tossed, spun, and set on the table (with empty hands before and after). Yet, when the cards are lifted, a half dollar is produced under each!!! Two methods explained! Absolutely impossible, as the coins barely fit under the cards. Has consistently fooled every magician performed for.

2) 4 of a Coin* - Produce the four aces one at a time. The cards are feely handled, spun through the air hand to hand, and set on the table one at a time. When the aces are lifted, four half dollars (already prepared to do "Matrix God's Way") are produced. After doing this you go right into the no-card matrix with no further preparations. The coins can be shelled and will NOT make a sound!

3) Matrix God's Way* - Hailed by all magicians that have seen it as the best no-card four coin matrix routine ever! A 5 phase routine, it starts out as a jazzed up version of “Translocation”. The matrix introduces itself through a one coin at a time assembly into the corner. Offering to do it again, the magician puts one coin in each corner. Waving over the coins, all four instantly assemble in the top RIGHT hand corner. Another wave, and without the hands crossing the center of the mat, all four coins are back in their respective corners (John's ground-breaking kickback). For the finale, a final wave brings all coins to the upper LEFT cornet of the mat. Throughout the routine constantly show empty hands and only four coins. The coins are examined by the spectator in the end. Magicians and the laity alike are floored.

4) Matrix ReBorn* - Previously released in "Coin Classics" from Steven's Magic Emporium - it is shadow coins with a KILLER ending! At the end cover the half dollars and they all become Chinese coins! Do it standing up! This was reviewed in the April of 2001 issue of Genii Magazine, and was hailed as "unbelievable. The surprise really caught me off guard and it's as strong a coin assembly as I've ever seen."

5) Borrowed Quarter Matrix - No shells on this one. John applies a brilliant principle to the impromptu matrix to make it twice as clean and visual, as well as extremely practical for the performer!

6) Off The Hook* - The magi performs an amazing spiced up version of John Kennedy’s “Translocation” with four English pennies, causing the coins to travel from one side of the mat to the other. At the end of the effect the magi shows his hands empty. Covering the coins once again, the coins change to half dollars, and the hands are again shown COMPLETELY CLEAN. Oh yeah…go ahead and show both sides of the half dollars. An absolute breakthrough in coin magic.

7) Totally Off The Hook - The magi performs an amazing spiced up version of John Kennedy’s “Translocation” with four English pennies, causing the coins to travel from one side of the mat to the other. At the end of the effect the magi shows his hands empty. Covering the coins once again, the coins change to half dollars. Oh yeah…go ahead and show both sides of the half dollars. The hands are again shown to be COMPLETELY CLEAN. Now, pick up the coins, place them in your left hand, and they immediately become Chinese coins that can be examined!!! End COMPLETELY CLEAN!!!

8) Over The Top – “Triple change shadow coins…” Perform shadow coins with four casino coins. At the end they visually change into English pennies. Perform John’s “Off The Hook” or his “Matrix God’s Way.” Show your hands empty, and change these coins into half dollars, ending COMPLETELY CLEAN!!! Oh…and show both sides of the half dollars. But wait, toss the coins into your right hand, and they become Chinese coins, which can be completely examined, and ending you, once again, COMPLETELY CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

9) Silver Dream - Take “4 Of A Coin” to a whole new level…The magi produces the four aces and cleanly shows his hands empty. The aces are pulled back to reveal four half dollars. The magi waves his hands and immediately ten coins appear! However, he doesn’t stop there, as he continues to produce a total of sixteen half dollars, two “two inch” coins, and a jumbo “three inch” half dollar!!! A nineteen coin production that can’t be beat…

10) Fingertip Three – A beautifully choreographed stand-up routine in which three dollar-sized Japanese coins appear, disappear, and penetrate a silk. For the finale, not one, but two 5-inch Japanese coins are produced.

11) Hole-dout - How to construct John's extremely dependable Chinese coin holdout for half dollar or dollar size coins. Ideal for steals out of the pocket, body loads, and prop loads!!!

12) Purse-onally Ironic* - The magi presents a “purse without a frame.” Out of it he ironically produces a “frame without a purse.” Setting the bag aside the magi displays the purse frame, with hands totally empty. He then proceeds to open the frame and produce a coin. A great application for John’s IMPOSSIBLE coin production, and the perfect way to introduce a coin for a single coin flurry!!!

13) Muscle Catch* - The magi rubs his hands together, turns them palm up, and shows them to be unmistakably empty. Immediately a coin appears at his fingertips.

14) Bite Me – This is what John does when a spectator repeatedly begs you to bite and restore the frickin’ coin, after you’ve done it for them like twenty times.

15) Trans-Knee-Cation - Lacking a proper table, the magi proceeds to sit down and perform an awesome version of John Kennedy’s “Translocation” on his knees! With a simple wave of his hand the four coins travel one-at-a-time from his left leg to his right.

16) Finger Ringer* - A very cool three-phase impromptu routine with your ring.

17) Silver Seasoning – Take the classic “quarter under the saltshaker” effect to a whole new level. This outstanding three phase routine is a masterpiece example of utilizing the element of surprise to your full advantage. For the finale, the magi pours both salt and pepper into his closed left fist. The hands are cupped and shaken, mixing the two seasons. In one quick move the hands split into two separate closed fists. The left hand pours its contents onto the table, which happens to be all salt. The right hand pours its contents onto the table…showing all pepper. Somehow the two seasons have miraculously separated.

18) Gotta Light? - One of the coolest moments in magic. The magi is asked for a light. He checks his pockets, and presents the lighter in his right hand. Before the lighter is handed over, the magi looks up and says… “Watch.” The left hand holds a wand made out of paper. The lighter is lit, and held up to the edge of the wand. In a burst of flames it catches fire, sending a string of fire down the left hand. Once the fire ceases, the lighter is seen to appear in the left hand. The spectator looks to the magi’s right hand, which is seen to be completely empty!

You will learn how to create an illusion in someone's mind.... to influence them in their mind.

1. "Burned"
Spectator chooses a card, then thinks of the card. They draw a picture of the card on a slip of paper and fold the paper into quarters. The paper is burned to ashes. Performer takes the ashes and rubs them on his/her arm... the image of the card slowly and perfectly appears on the performer's forearm.

2. Glass Stinger -

Performer says he can make a coin disintegrate. Borrows a coin but says he has to cover the process so the spectator won't see it happen.

He puts a small glass over the coin but people can still see through it. So the performer wraps a paper napkin around the glass. The audience is getting skeptical, wondering if the trick will be any good.

The performer makes an "incantation" and pulls the glass off the coin but it is not gone. After a few more tries the coin is still not gone so... the performer slams the entire glass through the table. The audience hears it hit and go through.... performer pulls the glass out from under the table. The misdirection in this trick is perfect and creates sheer and total shock in an audience.

3. Sick Aces

Performer borrows a shuffled pack of cards and sets them on the table saying that during the entire trick he doesn't want to touch or come near the cards.

He instructs a volunteer to cut the cards into four piles.... the volunteer can cut ANYWHERE. The performer has the volunteer mix the cards at random, putting cards here and there and on the other piles - it makes no difference where. At no time does he even come near the cards. Then the performer asks what the four most wanted cards are in a game of poker. They say aces. The performer asks if he has touched the cards in any way. The answer is absolutely NO. The spectator turns over the top four cards and they are, impossibly, the four aces.

4. Trace Unseen

Performer takes a shuffled pack of cards and "riffles" through asking a spectator to stop ANYWHERE. When the spectator says stop, they remember what card they stopped at.... that card NEVER leaves the pack. The performer says "watch" as he slowly closes the pack on the chosen card (they SEE the card disappear into the pack) and then shuffles the pack. They never take their eyes off the performer's hands.)

The performer instructs the volunteer to think of the card and look at the cards as he turns over all the cards in the pack one by one. They go through the entire pack with the spectator watching to SEE his card but.... he never does. That card is the ONLY card now missing.... even though they have been watching the performer like a hawk.

The performer starts patting his pockets as if the card might be in one of them. He looks around the room. He starts looking at the people. He settles on one guy at the far end of the table, or room. He asks this man to check his jacket pocket. The man does, and pulls out the exact card that JUST VANISHED.

5. Merger

Borrow a business card from someone in the room. Fold it in quarters and tear the middle out of it. Show that there is a hole in the middle of the card and the four sides are intact. You thread the card onto a string, rope, shoelace, or whatever. You tell people that you are about to perform the impossible but for their own protection you are going to cover the process with a handkerchief. The ends of the string or rope are held by the audience at all times.

You reach under the handkerchief and in ten seconds remove the business card, intact, from the string. It still has the perfect hole in the middle! Everything may be examined. This is completely impossible. In videos on the ellusionist� site you will see a kid do it - we trained the kid for this trick in ten minutes.

6. Trick Switch

After picking a card and shuffling it into the deck, the performer says he is going to try to find the card but he asks the spectator to keep a strict poker face - not blink - and not give away the card "no matter what".

Performer pulls out three cards and puts them on the table one by one... each time asking the spectator if it IS his card. The third card IS the card - but since the spectator has been instructed NOT to give it away - he cannot say anything. The performer puts it on the table saying he's positive that these three cards are NOT the chosen one. (The spectators begin to get amused - thinking that the performer has blown it).

After playing around to build up the effect, the performer pulls out the chosen card from the DECK. Everyone DIVES for the card on the table - having seen it clearly placed there - but it is a different card!

When people ask you to do a card trick, do this one first. You won't believe how sorry they feel for you - that you are so dumb to blow it so badly. Then you will see them literally FREAK when the card on the table is not the card they thought it was, and they realize there is more to you than they thought. "DO ANOTHER ONE!! PLEASE!!!!"

7. Voodoo Zone ( also known as card warp)

The trick looks like pure magic. A card is folded in half, face in. Another card is folded in half lengthwise, face OUT. The face out card is pushed through the face in card and as it comes out the other side it changes to FACE IN. This all happens visibly and no "trick cards" are used. In fact, borrow a deck and do it - it's better that way.

8. Go Inside Sugar

You take a quarter on your hand. Place a sugar packet with the quarter and slowly close your hand around both. A spectator holds your wrist and another holds your hand and they squeeze. You open your hand and the quarter is gone but the sugar is still there. You rip open the sealed sugar packet and slowly empty it onto the table.... the quarter falls out of the packet, clanging on the table.

Do it in any bar or diner. Great to do for girls if you want them holding your hand.

9. George's Old Trick.

A. You show your hand absolutely empty and flick the fingers one by one. You instantly pull a quarter out of thin air, using just the one hand.

B. You put the coin on the table in front of you - everyone sees it in the middle of the table. You put a hand over it and gently rub in a tiny circle. Pull your hand off and the coin is simply gone. Another great one for a diner or dinner table.

10. Chance Zero.

You tell a spectator to take a shuffled deck and deal the cards one by one. If they think it's a red card they put it in one pile.... if they think it's black they put it in another pile. They deal the whole deck, face down, putting cards anywhere they want to. They can pull cards out and change them, whatever. You turn over the cards and the spectator has divided the cards between red and black perfectly..... this is magic at it's most amazing. You never touch the deck and it can be a borrowed deck. Inconceivable but true.

11. Print!

You pull out a stack of blank business cards and show all of them back and front. You pull out a single blank card and again, show it plainly back and front. Slowly you push it through your hand and as it emerges on the other side it comes out with your printing, name, address etc on it. Give it to the spectator... there is no better way to hand out your card.

12. Melted.

Borrow a solid ring and then borrow a shoelace, or string. You thread the ring on the lace and place it on a lady's outstretched hand. Slowly she closes her hand around the ring and lace and you can see the ring threaded right up to the last second. You take each end of the string and slightly pull it.... the lady can FEEL the string go right through the ring and off. She opens her hand and there it is. Off the lace.

The Little Girl...

I was standing in the "Arcade Magic and Novelty" store once in Toronto and watching Nick Fabian (what a card man!) bend down to a little girl who was in the store shopping with her mother.

Nick asked her if she wanted to see a card trick and she said OK. He held out the deck and did the beautiful 'classic color change'...but pretended to pull the top card off into his hand. (It's a different way to do the change — instead of "changing" the card you act like you took the card off the pack into your right hand.)

Then he crumpled his hand and the card "disappeared".

He so slowly reached under the hem of the little girl's dress and SLOWLY pulled out the card. It was amazing... she couldn't believe it.

Watching Nick change what he did based on the audience he had in the moment — he made it very SIMPLE for that little girl, but brilliant at the same time — these are the lessons I got when I was a kid, as well as hundreds of one on one lessons from the greats who hung around the shop — The Amazing Randi, Harry Smith, and especially Tom Baxter — who seemed to know absolutely everything about absolutely everything.

Advanced Four Aces

Use these blistering hot routines one right after the other and you will find out why your reputation as a card master is signed, sealed and hand-delivered. (But no one will play cards with you again.)

I never do anything hard, if it can be done easy.... you'll find a lot of that kind of stuff in this package.

In the Vegas Routine, basically you do a bunch of semi-hard stuff first (and stuff that just looks hard) like the pass and triple cuts and pulling the aces out of nowhere, and then show them (yes, you actually show them) how the pass is done (but you're doing magic with it the whole time!)..... they freak out over that so when you pull out the easier stuff later and TELL them it's hard they don't question you. No one EVER questions you after the opening stuff.

Vegas Cheat is meant to be done with spectators eyes blazing into your hands, as YOU show them the brutally casual misdirection that card sharks use during a game. You show them the illusion that the card shark creates at the card table... using his natural motions to camouflage his moves.
