I just finished this wonderful book and felt compelled to tell other magicians about it. I don't usually read magic history books--quite frankly, I usually find them boring. The few exceptions have been Steinmeyer's Chung Ling Soo book and both the Silverman and Kalush Houdini bio's. Well now I have another to add to my short list. For as cliche as it might sound, I couldn't put the Doug Henning book down. The story of Doug's life is absolutely fascinating, both as a story about magic and magicians, and a story about show business. The details in the book are unbelievable--you can tell the author (John Harrison) left no stone unturned. But it's how those details have been weaved into a real book -- something you really want to read -- that makes this book something special. As magicians, we pay more for our books than most, and if you are at all like me, you've been disappointed more than once, but with this book I felt I got every penny's worth. --Alan Phillips
